How to Make Foundation With Eyeshadow

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Some people have combination skin and cannot find a foundation which suits them. Also some foundations have harmful chemicals in them, the most common cause of acne. Read on to discover how to make a foundation that is 99.9% chemical free.

    Steps

    1. Go to your local drug store or shopping center and buy some eye shadow(s) that match your natural skin colour. If you don't already have some, get a plain (MILD) body lotion. It must be mild otherwise it will irritate the skin. If you want to have fresh smelling foundation, you can get a scented lotion, although this is optional.
    2. Next, head down to your local supermarket and look for a small container such as an airtight trinket box or a minuscule tupperware container. This is what you'll need to store your foundation.
    3. Grab your eye shadow and lotion. Take a teaspoon of lotion and 3/4 teaspoon of eyeshadow. However, if you are using a cream eyeshadow, make sure its 3/4 lotion as well, or it will be too runny to apply and streak.
    4. Stir the mix well. To determine whether it is thick enough, scoop up some mix onto the spoon. Gently tilt the spoon. If it runs off too quickly, use more eyeshadow. If it sits and hardly moves, you need more lotion. If it is more or less perfect, it should just ooze off the spoon at a medium pace.
    5. When you're satisfied with the results, pour the mixture into the box from step 2. Use as needed.

    Tips

    • You can also use blush if you cannot find a suitable eyeshadow.
    • To make the foundation last longer, keep it in a cool, dark place to avoid it going hard.
    • Over time, you might need to add more lotion as it might stiffen up slightly. Make sure you mix well when you add more lotion.
    • Put down some newspaper to prevent the foundation staining any surfaces.
    • Don't wear the foundation if your skin gets irritated from it.

    Warnings

    • Although it is eyeshadow, avoid direct contact with your eyes. If this happens rinse thoroughly with clean water.
    • Foundation can be easily spill, so keep it upright at all times and be careful when making, mixing and applying.

    Things You'll Need

    • Eyeshadow that matches your skin tone (blush can also be used).
    • An airtight container.
    • Teaspoon
    • Mild lotion (scented is optional)
    • Newspapers

    How to Apply Lip Color

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Lip gloss and lip stick can make your lips look fuller, glossier and better! They can add volume to your lips and make them appear bigger if you have thin lips. Below are some steps to apply lip gloss/lip stick.

    Steps

    1. Choose the perfect lip gloss for you. Do you want it to be shimmery, clear, coloured, flavoured or sheer? There are many different kinds out there, so go shopping and take a look at whats available.
    2. choose a lip stick. Find the perfect shade for you by experimenting with different colours. For a safer option, use a nude lipstick. Most shops also have nude lipsticks with just a hint of colour. If you have pale skin, you would usually look best in rose pink, and darker skins look best in brown/gold shades. You should use creamy lipsticks to keep your lips moisturized.
    3. Decide whether you are going to wear lipliner. If you do, it should be neutral or match the colour of your lipstick.
    4. Apply your lipstick first. Stretch the lips and start at the center, putting on the lipstick to the corners. Blot the lipstick with a tissue. Make sure the lipstick has not smudged over the line of your lips.
    5. Apply your lipgloss. Either apply it all over your lips, or just apply it in the centre of each lip and rub your lips together to apply an even, thin coat.
    6. Use chap stick over your lips. This prevents or seals any cracks you may have. Chap stick can also help your lips from drying out.

    Tips

    • Red lipstick works well as it shows up, but only use it if it suits your skin tone.
    • Try out lipstick colours in cosmetic stores, and staff there can assist you in choosing colours.
    • When you apply lipbalm on the final step, make sure it is clear. You can also by balm with SPF protection if you are going out in the sun.
    • Creamy lipsticks help protect your lips from drying out, and many have ingredients that keep your lips soft and help prevent the affects of weather.

    Warnings

    • Make sure you're not allergic to the ingredients in your lipstick/lipgloss. Always check the back of your product for the ingredients.
    • Do not eat the makeup -- it is toxic!
    • Do not wear lip liner that is darker than your lipstick, as it can look horrible if your lipstick rubs off.

    How to Apply Lip Liner

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Applying lip liner correctly can be a challenge for the most loyal makeup user. Done correctly it can increase the wear of your lipstick, prevent color feathering, prevent color bleeding, provide more definition to your lips, enhance or hide lip features and make you look stunning.

    Steps

    1. Start by practicing with a shade of lip liner that is close to the shade of lip stick.
    2. Beginners should practice with more natural/neutral colors that won't show mistakes as well.
    3. Make sure your lips are clean of lip balms and other oil based products.
    4. Make a dot along the lip line at the center of your upper lip.
    5. Make more dots on the raised sections of each side of your lips.
    6. Make 2-3 dots along the lip line across the bottom of your lower lip.
    7. Using a VERY light hand, slowly start connecting the dots trying not to make the lines appear to straight. Follow the lip line to the edge but don't apply as heavy a line at the edge or fade the lip liner as you get closer.
    8. If you have some spaces that need to be filled in, go back and gently add more color.
    9. Use your finger or the edge of a make up sponge to wipe away anything outside the natural lip line.
    10. Once your lips are lined, apply a lip stick that is close to the same color and shade as your lip liner.
    11. You can use a lip brush to blend the lip stick closer to the lip liner to avoid a harsh line.
    12. You can hold your lip with your free hand to smooth out the surface area for easier application.

    Tips

    • Red lip liner is the hardest to apply. Until you get the hang of it, try shades of lip liner and lipstick that are close to your natural color of lips. This will block many mistakes.
    • Lip liners should coordinate with your lipstick color. Try to buy them together when possible.
    • It is easier to apply lip liner when the tip of the pencil is not too sharp. You can dull it slightly by running it across a tissue.
    • Some lip liners are creamier than others. Usually the twist up pencils are creamier than the pencils you can sharpen. Try different kinds to see what you like best.
    • Quality is important. If you have bad luck with application, try another brand.
    • Visit the makeup counter in your local department store and ask for assistance buying lipstick and liner. Don't let them force you into the new seasonal colors if they are too bold, trendy or too light for your lip tone. Explain that you are new to lip liner and try some out while you are there.
    • Everyone has a different method for applying lip liner. The above is a good way to start.
    • If you notice your lip liner last longer than your lipstick you can try applying your liner of your lipstick. They will fade at the same time.

    Warnings

    • Lip liner that is applied too heavily can give a sloppy appearance.
    • Lip liner will melt when exposed to heat. Treat it as you would a eye liner or lipstick.
    • Lip balms, some glosses and other ointments may remove lipstick and lip liner.
    • Wooden pencils that become dull can scratch your lips. Keep a sharpener handy.

    Things You'll Need

    • Lip liner
    • Lipstick
    • Mirror
    • Steady hands
    • Tissue for clean ups
    • Time to practice

    How to Apply Lipstick

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

When it comes to makeup, lipstick is perhaps one of the more crucial elements to looking fabulous. This guide will teach you how to get sultry lips, regardless of size or shape.

    Steps

    1. Know your lips! This sounds foolish but it's very true. Understand which shades, kinds, and brands your lips prefer. Also take into account what kind of skintone you have. Pale-skinned people look very good with light, glossy colors and perhaps a little blush, moderate-skinned people look good with muted colors (bland pinks and even browns), and dark-skinned people look great with gold browns and even nude pinks. It can vary, however, so find a shade that matches you.
    2. Once you've found a color that suits you, find a lipliner that is slightly darker than the lipstick. Lipliner is more important that one might assume because it creates a sort of foundation for the lipstick and can blend well. It also creates the illusion of plumper lips for those with thin ones.
    3. Now that you've got everything that you need, you can start. It's important that you soften your lips and remove dead flakes, for these can ruin your lips. If you have chapped lips, exfoliate by making a paste of sugar (not salt!) and water and GENTLY scrub your lips. After, fold a tissue in half and dampen it with water, then rub a little Vaseline on them. Squeeze this between your lips for 30 seconds, or as long as you can.
    4. Rub the excess Vaseline off with the back of your hand or your finger and try to get as much as you can off. Now start filling in your lips with lipliner from the edges to the center. If you have thin lips, you can color a little outside of the edge to fakely 'plump' your lips.
    5. Next, apply the lipstick. This title is a little misleading in that it doesn't only tell you how to apply lipstick, but this step shows you how. Apply thin coats; just one or two sweeps over your lips. After that, if desired, apply a little more. Less is more when it comes to lipstick, because greased-up lips are not only unnattractive, but tend to rub off easily.
    6. When you're done, blot with the back of your hand. Apply gloss if desired, and voila!

    Tips

    • Carry your lipstick with you incase of accidental removal or just quick touch-ups.
    • Lipstick isn't only for women. If you're a guy and you feel comfortable or sexy in lipstick, wear it! Express yourself through the use of self art, it works for everyone.
    • Try not to look like The Joker with red lipstick. Unless you're aiming for that look.

    Warnings

    • Try not to use abrasive colors such as: bright reds, oranges, or pinks. Not many people can pull them off and unless you're sure you're one of them, don't try!
    • Color isn't needed all the time. Nude works great for just a day out with the girls/guys, and can be the prettiest for you.

How to Apply Lipstick Without a Mirror

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

In a perfect world, there would always be a mirror handy whenever you want to apply lipstick. This isn't a perfect world, however, and often you either don't have a mirror immediately on hand, don't have room to hold it or it's buried down deep in your purse with all your receipts and share change. Keeping this in mind, here's how a mirrorless lipstick application method that won't result in you looking like a kid applied your makeup.

    Steps

    1. Open your mouth. While your mouth is open, use your dominant hand to position the lipstick so it's in the center of the bow of your upper lip. Put one of the fingers of your free hand above the lipstick as a guide.
    2. Draw a half heart from the tip of the bow, then trace the top of your lip to the edge our mouth while using your guiding fingertip to keep the makeup in place. Repeat this procedure on the other side of your top lip.
    3. Next, place the lipstick in the center of your bottom lip. Trace the lipstick to the edge of your bottom lip. Repeat for the other side of your bottom lip.

    Warnings

    • Don't rub your lips together, since this will cause the lip color to smear off your lips onto other parts of your face.

  7. How to Avoid Lip Chapping During Winter

How to Avoid Lip Chapping During Winter

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Chapped lips can be a miserable thing in winter. Your lips are in pain, the skin peels off constantly, and it's hard to get lipstick to go on evenly or stay on. What can you do to avoid chapped lips in winter?

    Steps

    1. Drink plenty of fluids. Your lips chap due to a lack of moisture in your lips and your body. The first step is to stay hydrated in the winter by drinking enough fluids. This will help your lips have enough moisture to decrease the chance of them becoming chapped in the first place.
    2. Moisturize by using lip balm. In winter, it is easier for the moisture in your lips to be taken away by the elements. This is because winter is generally drier than summer in most climates. There is less moisture in the air. So, you have to protect your lips. The best way to do this is to purchase a lip balm especially for this purpose. The best is Blistik, which comes in a tube as a solid like Chapstick. Chapstick tends to be waxy and doesn't protect as well.
    3. Avoid the dry cold. Exposing your lips to the harsh winter weather may cause chapping. Stay indoors when possible, especially if it's windy or bitterly cold.
    4. Purchase and use a humidifier. Even indoors in the winter, the air is dry. Purchase a humidifier, which will put the moisture back into the air in your household. Some heaters have humidifiers attached to them, so you can change the setting to be more humid.
    5. Wear something over your face, like a scarf. You can wrap the scarf around you so that it covers your lips to avoid exposing your lips to the winter weather.
    6. Avoid licking your lips. If it's windy outside, the wind will remove the moisture from your lips even more quickly if your lips are wet.
    7. The higher the elevation, the worse the winter weather will be on your lips. The air is dryer and thinner in higher elevations. Also, there is more sun exposure.
    8. Use a lip balm which provides protection from the sun. If you will be at higher elevations, and even in general at lower ones, you need to protect your lips from the sun as well as the cold and wind. Use a lip balm with an SPF factor of 15 or above (Blistik has an SPF of 15). The sun acts to dry out your lips just like the dry air and wind.
    9. Moisturize chapped lips to encourage healing. It is hard to get them to heal. Keep them moisturized as much as possible and avoid as much exposure to the elements until they are healed.

    Tips

    • Some lipsticks now contain protection for your lips. They have added moisturizers and some even have an SPF factor included. These are the best lipsticks to use in the winter.

    Warnings

    • If your lips are dry and cracked, don't lick them. This will just make things worse as the water leaves your lips and dries them out more. Instead, lock the moisture in with a lip balm.

  8. How to Buy Lipstick

    How to Buy Lipstick

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

It looks so simple, just going out to buy lipstick. There are many choices these days, and various ingredients that go into some of the lipsticks, that prior to purchasing, understand what exactly is in that lipstick you want to buy.

    Steps

    1. Hold the tube to your mouth to see if it suits your complexion. Avoid using on your mouth, fingers, or hands as it isn't hygienic. If you feel that you must try it out, wipe the surface of the lipstick with a tissue.
    2. Check the ingredients: Be careful of the chemicals if you have allergies. See Skin Deep, for help on assessing what's in your lipstick. A woman is said to swallow about 4-6 pounds of lipstick in a lifetime (almost 100 tubes) - make sure what is being swallowed is palatable!
    3. Ask for samples: if you're still not sure you like the color and texture, reputable makeup sales counters will have samples to offer you to try out at home. If at a drug store, ask about their return policy. Most will let you return it if you don't like it.
    4. Choose your color:Base your choice on your skin tone - for skin with pinky tones choose cool-toned colours, if your skin is more yellow toned then warm colours work best.
    5. Consider how bold you want the colour to be, the general rule is more natural colours for day time, stronger colours for the evening or under artificial light.
    6. Understand that complexion and your clothing colors should affect your color choices. Try to wear something typical of your favored wardrobe coloring when buying a lipstick (and any other makeup).

    Tips

    • When choosing between matte, sheer or glossy, remember that glossy or sheer finishes look best when first applied and need to be reapplied more frequently. Matte colors are not shiny. They last longer and bleed less but are also less moisturizing to the lips and so tend to dry them out more; try and select one that is not too dry.
    • When applying lipstick, you can "prime" your lips like a painter primes a wall for painting by coloring them in first with a lip pencil of a color close to your lips and then add the lipstick. This behaves like a fixative for the lipstick to remain on your lips longer.
    • A natural look can be achieved using just lip pencil coloring-in of your lips and clear gloss over this.
    • Be happy with your choice - if you don't like the color the sales assistant is insisting looks good on you, trust your own instincts first!
    • Lipstick lasts longer if stored in a cool, even refrigerated environment.
    • You can create your own lipstick colors by mixing and matching.
    • If your lipstick or lipgloss tends to wear off very quickly, consider the long-lasting variety. Look for one in a light, subtle color (long-lasting lipstick will seem much darker and brighter) that comes with a moisturizing topcoat, as these lipsticks can be very drying.

    Warnings

    • Avoid trying lipstick samples directly to your mouth unless they are individual sachets - otherwise you risk transferring germs that could make you ill.
    • Try to avoid lipsticks containing parabens - these have been linked with breast cancer and reproductive system diseases.
